"We have a racial ravine in addition to a digital divide, " said Larry Irving, Assistant Secretary for the National
Telecommunications and Information Administration of the Commerce Department in a July 9, 1999, New York Newsday article.
Southeast Queens has the highest per capita income of any Black community in America, however national statistics show
that internet usage among whites is 38% and only 19% for blacks.
The Technology Learning Center (TLC) is I Love Our Youth's answer to reducing the "digital divide."
This state-of-the-art computer lab caters to youth between the ages of 9 through 18. The mission of the center is to
prepare our young people to compete in the global technology market. The majority of all jobs in by the year 2001,
approximately 70% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, will require computer literacy skills.
The computer lab offers the following high-end technology for you youth:
Distance Learning
Allows our students to link up with educational opportunities in other parts of the world.
Video Conferencing
Children share and exchange information with other children on other continents.
Webcasting
Gives children a voice on our internet "TV" program.
Unicasting
Live internet broadcasting.
Internet Radio Broadcasting
High Speed Internet Access (Digital Subscriber Line)
